Holiday discoveries

We have just got back from a wonderful week in Brittany at Gites Guebernez (see previous post). We managed to find the sunshine and spend some lazy days on the beach, playing football, making sandcastles and collecting shells. Whilst visiting a lovely little bistro called the Sabots Rouges in Guemene sur Scorff I spotted these two fabulous old children's books which I just had to photograph and note down the ISBN.

'I am an Owl' and 'The Little Green Caterpillar' are both written by Yvonne Hooker and the combination of retro illustration with die cut concentric circles makes them utterly charming and enticing. I have already found copies of both available on Abebooks so am pretty excited. We had a delicious meal at the Sabots Rouges and it was all the more relaxed due to the great selection of children's toys and books provided which kept our kids entertained whilst we finished our meal.

The other great treat which we discovered last year and for which we made a special trip this year, is the vast Amor-Lux shop just outside Quimper. Those who know me, know I just love a stripey top and will happily dress the entire family in stripes without even realising it! Armor-Lux has a heritage stretching back to the 1930's and are renowned for their quality. They make the best, classic Breton stripey tops and so we stocked up for everyone whilst we were there.
