The High Street

I have just bought the most beautiful children's book that I have seen for ages. The High Street by Alice Melvin is an enchanting journey along a high street as the book's character, Sally, searches for items on her shopping list. Each page is a new shop front with a flap to lift to see inside the shop. The shops on the street hark back to days gone by e.g. pet shop, hardware shop, sweet shop etc and I think that is why it appeals so much to me. Each illustration is packed with intricate details which the kids love and each time we read it we spot something new. I also love the fact that it is written in rhyme. I can't think of any child who wouldn't enjoy this book and think it would make the perfect birthday present for 2 to 6 year olds.
